(Proceed at your own risk and wear safety glasses)
Buy recharging kit – Can of R-134a with additives and filling hose with gauge.
1.) Pop hood and find low-pressure filling port near firewall and remove filler cap. (on 2005 X3 BMW low pressure port is located near firewall passenger side)
2.) Attach R-134a can to hose tightly with puncture needle retracted (retract needle by rotating gauge fully counter clockwise.)
3.) With engine already at normal operating temp., start engine and put A/C on full cold and fan on high speed.
4.) Attach filler hose to Low Pressure port by pulling back connector ring then pushing connector onto Low pressure port, then release connector ring to lock hose onto port
5.) Rotate gauge fully clockwise to puncture can of R-134a.
6.) Rotate gauge back fully counter clockwise and you should hear refrigerant and additives entering port and being sucked in by compressor. Can should get cold as you shake it a bit and rotate it from 12 to 3 oclock and back every three seconds.
7) Empty can or add until air in cabin is blowing coldest using a digital thermometer if you have one. If not add until gauge is approx 38-40 psi and in the center of green area.
8.) Remove can by pulling back connector ring and pulling off hose quickly.
Your done – If air is not cold you have other issues. good luck
