Brake pad shims required?
After a search, I found inconclusive information.
I’m shopping around different web sites for Akebono pads (Front and rear) for my 2001 E38.
When going to certain merchants’ parts catalogs, I enter all the variables to specify my make/model/year etc. and get a list of all available parts for my car. So far so good.

When going to certain merchants’ parts catalogs, I enter all the variables to specify my make/model/year etc. and get a list of all available parts for my car. So far so good.
However, I get offered the choice of pads that come with shims, and pads with no mention of shims for roughly 8-11$ cheaper.
Before buying, I need to know, whether I need to choose the Akebono pads that come with the shims or not.
Also, what is the difference between Brembo and Brembo Sport rotors besides price?
