So, some of you know that I was having some weird issues regarding my transmission. Well, today I was driving home from work, and was experiencing some strange problems again, like the car jerking when I tried giving it gas from a stop. After a mile or so, I tried to throttle, and it just revved as if it were in neutral. Trans failsafe prog came on. I called AAA and had them get the car on a flatbed and to my house (which was less than a mile from where the car died, thank God).

After the car was taken off the flatbed in my driveway, the tow guy and I pushed the car into its parking spot and he mentioned that he thought the rear axle or diff had a problem somewhere. I still think its the transmission.

I checked the ATF fluid, and its full. Oil is slightly low, but wouldn’t cause this. I ran the carsoft and got trouble codes 121, 120, and 106 under the EGS. 121 and 120 aren’t listed in the trouble code book (can someone shed some light?), but 106 is MUX Injection rates. Not sure what that means.

UPDATE: I just checked code 106 again and the "MUX Injection rates" is the DME code 106. The EGS code 106 is "Trans/engine speed ratio not correct for gear selected, Speed sensor signal faulty, Slip in transmission too high. Perhaps just a speed sensor?

But anyway, I’ve decided that after I am completely sure its the transmission thats the problem, I’m going to get started on a 6 speed build. I consider myself pretty well learned on the matter, all I need is money. I think I can get my parents to get me the getrag for my 18th birthday (Sept. 12) and maybe for my early graduation present I can get some money for driveshaft or another part.

For now, I’m gonna go the cheapest route and buy mostly stock 540i parts, like the flywheel (from a junkyard or such) and clutch (new).

Well, wish me luck! When I make sure its the transmission, I will add a donations link in my signiture (as per Dylan ) because I work parttime at $8.10 and hour. That’s not exactly gonna pay for this project fast. I’m also gonna sell anything I don’t need right now (I have a lot of that!).

So wish me luck everyone! When I was waiting for the tow truck, all I could think about is how awesome this conversion would be! I wasn’t even that depressed, just excited for the future (and a little hungry)!
